JOHN DIETSCH
John Dietsch is an independent film producer and former Aspen fly
fishing guide based in Santa Monica, California. Known as a major
resource for flyfishing in the film industry, Dietsch was the
fly-fishing production coordinator on the film “A River Runs
Through It.” His responsibilities included fly fishing
supervision and instruction of all the actors including Brad Pitt,
hiring and supervising all the fishing consultants and doubles,
scouting all river locations, visualizing and storyboarding the
fly fishing scenes using professional fly fishing doubles
(including a mechanical trout), spearheading the acquisition or
replication of the 1920’s fishing gear used by the Norman Maclean
family, liaising and performing as Brad Pitt’s stunt double in the
final fishing scene, conceived by Dietsch, for the film.
Dietsch wrote, hosted, directed, and co-produced the
popular CD-ROM, “The ESPN Interactive Fly Fishing School.”
Dietsch has also consulted or starred on TV commercials for
Coca-Cola, Miller Genuine Draft, Dockers, TJ Rowe, and other
international brands. He has given flyfishing presentations to
groups and corporations all over the world including Japan and New
Zealand. Mr. Dietsch has been profiled for his combined
film/fly-fishing career in

Fly Rod and Reel, California Angler, LA Times, The Aspen Times,
USA Today,
and Weekend Magazine.
Dietsch’s company, Castle Creek Productions, has produced
more than 150 episodes for television and has filmed in nearly 30
countries. As executive producer, Dietsch’s TV credits include
award-winning series on adventure travel like Wild
California and The Great Adventure, and
outdoor sports like Surfer TV and Explore the
Undiscovered, as well as lifestyle series like
Creative Juice. Dietsch’s series have aired on station
affiliates like ABC, CBS, and NBC as well as cable networks like
ESPN, Fox Sports, Travel Channel, CNBC, Fine Living, DIY, and HGTV.
His corporate film and commercial clients include Bank of America,
Honda, Apple, Hewlett-Packard, Verizon Wireless, ARCO, PAC-10
Properties and the National Park Service. Dietsch has hosted
several shows including a recent web video for the fledgling Water
Entertainment Television network, and is currently the executive
producer and on-air talent for Adventure Guides: Hunting and
Fishing Edition slated for broadcast on the Outdoor Life
Network in late 2006.
Mr. Dietsch is an avid skier, kayaker (both whitewater and sea),
and flyfisherman. He lives in Pacific Palisades, California, with
his wife Mollie and son and daughter. He visits Colorado often,
